INSPIRING OTHERS TO NOURISH THEIR creativity, TO LIVE CONNECTED & NURTURED BY BEAUTY & FLOWERS

Allow me to create for or with you, the most exquisite flowers.

Hello flower lover, I’m Katherine English, florist, and an artisan who has chosen flowers as the medium to share my eye for colour, shape, movement, texture and exquisite details.

It is an expression of my inner self that I had kept tenderly close to me until life conspired to bring change. It was about serendipity and how magically pieces of what I have always loved came together. My heart had always longed to share my creativity, love for flowers, and the nourishment it can give others. Then when change came I studied floristry formally, full time for a year. Alongside this I was incredibly fortunate to also learn with La Musa de La Flores, a world renowned floral artisan and teacher.

My vision for creating was inside me. Study helped me to refine my eye, and understand deeper how to express through flowers the mood, lightness and exquisite details that set my work apart. I wanted to bring my way of designing with flowers to others who love a garden style, but in a more refined way. And encourage and support others to share in exploring their creativity. This was the start of Katherine English Flora in 2020 in Christchurch, New Zealand.

  • I came to see a real need and desire here in Christchurch, and perhaps even further afield, for flowers that evoke both elegance and a sense of wild spontaneity. Those that have a feel of a romantic English garden. A hidden walled garden, with seasonal treasures that take your breath away. Full and abundant, and yet a little wild around the edges. One with treasures that you would not find in a more commercial florist, the flowers and stems that you wish you had in your own garden.

My flowers honour some very special British florists, and especially the original foraging florist Constance Spry. But always created in my own way. It is just a happy coincidence that my name is English! I love this quote from Constance.

“You have no idea how wonderful it is to come out of the dark frustration of being unable to crystallise such visions you may have, and to find suddenly a possible medium of expression.” – Constance Spry

There is a longing in many to fill their hearts through flowers and nature. For brides, gardeners, growers, for anyone who simply loves flowers. It’s about having a desire to feel the way that flowers give us a connection with beauty, and nature and time to leave behind the everyday. A time to be nourished. I’m here to share my joy and vision with you.

If you’re a flower lover, a bride yearning for breathtakingly romantic flowers, a gardener or flower grower wanting to learn how to create bouquets or arrangements, I’m here.

Or maybe you’d simply love to experience time with flowers as a way to nourish your soul. They really can do that.

“Every hedgerow and field, every garden, little or big, every street barrow, flower shop window, holds the material of your art. Your imagination is fired and feeds on things that perhaps before you’d never noticed.”

- Constance Spry

A little note about the turtle hidden throughout this, it has a deeply personal meaning for me. It represents not giving up on your dreams, even when life feels like it might be moving slowly. Like in the story of the hare and the tortoise. It feels perfect for how my life has come to this place of now living connected to what nourishes and fills me. It is my talisman.
