Russet Apples - The Pheasant's Eye Collection
I can not remember a time I have not loved those dark sumptuous Dutch Master paintings, and this is my ode to them and the richness of autumn. The crab apples, rosehips, and spindle berries were a joy to forage, along with the smoke bush foliage. The dahlias felt like sparks of light amongst glowing embers. Oh, and one more detail I adore is the chocolate rudbeckia with its teddy bear nose centre. The colours, depth, velvet, and opulence all stole my heart! Truly I was doing a happy dance when making and photographing this. The light, flowers, and details all came together so beautifully and exactly as I had imagined.
This image has a particular significance for me. I entered all three of this "The Pheasant's Eye Collection" in the New Zealand Amateur Photography Awards, and had to pinch myself when all three were awarded Highly Commended!
