You are invited to join myself and artist and photographer Laura Tait at Puhoi Farmhouse for a truly magic workshop on Saturday 15th March 2027. This is about 40 minutes north of Auckland. It will be a dream day of floral opulence and creativity, one to truly nourish the soul and inspire your own artful flowers. To create magic with Laura has been a long held dream of mine, we have such admiration and respect for each other’s work. This is a workshop that we know will be a dream for anyone who loves flowers and would love to learn both how to arrange and photograph your flowers at their most beautiful. We have chosen peak dahlia season for the richness of details and colour that late summer brings. Our vases (and yours!) will be overflowing with velvety flounces and layers of warm rich colours. Think opulence, texture, colour and dreamy light.
Laura’s flowers and photography always take my breath away, it is extraordinary how utterly beautiful her images are. Literally breathtaking! Her poetic imagery and rich painterly still life’s feel as if stepping in to a Dutch still life. They are a study in both opulence and the transient beauty of flowers, and truly world class and award winning. She is THE flower photographer of dreams!
All you need to join us is your love of beauty, colour and a phone camera. If you are already comfortable and familiar with using a DSLR or mirrorless camera do bring it as well, but it really your phone is perfect. You might be someone who simply adores flowers and art, or perhaps a gardener, flower grower or florist who would like to expand your style and portfolio. No previous experience is needed. Mostly it is about treasuring the opportunity to create beauty, with a small group of like minded flower lovers and in a dream setting. A day for creativity, nature and art. A day to nourish the soul like no other.
We will immerse ourselves in making and photographing the most sumptous vase arrangements. The day will begin with my demonstration, where I will guide you step by step in how I place flowers to create natural movement, depth, how I build a colour palette and what I look for when choosing materials. Then you will create your own dream floral arrangement, I will be close by to offer you encouragement and as much gentle guidance as you wish.
After a delicious shared lunch, under the guidance of Laura, you will learn how to photograph your flowers to show them at their most exquisite. Laura will first demonstrate how she creates such artful magic, you’ll learn about flower styling, how to create depth, composition and capturing beautiful light. Your flowers will be photographed by Laura, and alongside you will also learn how to capture that magic with your phone camera, to show your flowers at their most beautiful. I know myself how valuable it is to be able to take photos that show your flowers in the best possible light. And the joy it brings!
This workshop is to dedicate yourself to nurturing your creativity. To allow inspiration to flow, to feel supported and guided into allowing the joy of flowers to flow into you. It is about bringing together the most inspiring flowers and people, and immersing ourselves in the creativity that will flow. All that is required for this is a love of flowers and a phone camera. No previous experience is needed, and we will be devoting as much personal time with each guest as is possible.
The flowers you make will be photographed throughout the workshop, and edited high resolution photos will be shared with you later. These photos will be yours to keep, purely for the joy, or for your portfolio or social media if wished.
The workshop is NZ$775pp total, with an initial (non refundable) deposit of NZ$300pp to reserve your place. The remainder will be invoiced a month before. The workshop includes two classes of tuition (arrangement and photography), the most dreamy flowers, a handcrafted ceramic vase made especially for guests of this workshop, a kenzan flower pin and other mechanics. It also includes lunch and refreshments, and beautiful high resolution photos to keep and treasure. You will leave with a full heart, a glorious vase arrangement, edited photos that will be shared with you soon after, and memories of precious time with new flower friends! And the knowledge of how to continue on with the inspiration that has flowed into you.
Tickets are not refundable, however if you are unable to attend you are most welcome to gift your ticket to a friend. If we have a waitlist we would of course do our best to help too. If we do not have a waitlist we will not be able to refund your deposit. Travel insurance is recommended if you are flying to join us.
The workshop is limited to no more than 10 guests, to allow for individual attention, guidance, and feedback (as much or little as you wish). If in the unlikely event that this workshop does not have enough numbers, or an unforeseen event should happen that prevents it going ahead, your deposit will be refunded in full.
